Our next milestone, which should begin on the southernmost building (we call Building C) before the end of June, is a major step in the construction process that is beginning to give homeowners and passersby a good sense of what the first residences (we call Canopy) of Mill District will look like.
Mill District welcomed homeowners to Healdsburg earlier this month for a special weekend of fun, food, and fabulousness. The weekend spanned three days in the middle of the month.
Healdsburg may be small, but it plays large on the cultural scene. Put differently, for a town of 11,000 people, Healdsburg always seems to have a lot going on.
Healdsburg’s next iconic restaurant will be a new concept in a familiar spot—a spot where many locals have fond memories of coming together over good food and bocce.
One thing stands out above all else this month at Mill District: structural steel, and lots and lots of it. Over the course of the month of April, crews have put into place all the steel for Building C, the southernmost building of the three buildings that comprise Canopy, the first residential offering at Mill District.
Attention to detail and a sophisticated interior design aesthetic are two of the characteristics that make Mill District’s Canopy residences so special. Cabinetry is a huge part of both, and MandiCasa, our cabinet partner, is second to none.
For a town of only 10,000 people, Healdsburg is home to a cornucopia of nonprofits. Taken as a whole, Sonoma County has more not-for-profit organizations than just about every other county in the United States.
The duo behind Maison Smith, Healdsburg’s newest home store that offers interior design, knows a lot about designing beautiful homes. Janen Smith, whose surname is part of the brand, has a knack for sourcing unique pieces from all over the world.
Look skyward and you’ll see evidence of perhaps the most notable development in the Mill District neighborhood over the last month: cranes.

The year 2022 was a big deal for Mill District. We broke ground on Canopy, demo’d the last of the old mill buildings on the site, started selling residences and welcoming homeowners, and inspired the largest freeway processional of cement mixers Sonoma County has seen in some time.
Mill District is totally local to Healdsburg—a project that is for locals, run by locals, and will contribute mightily to the local community. The developer is Replay Destinations, based in Vancouver, Canada and is much more than just a development company.
The months of December and January are a special time in northern Sonoma County. Cities such as Healdsburg and Windsor come together to celebrate end-of-year holidays with community festivals.
There aren’t many in the Healdsburg community who contribute more than Circe Sher. On paper, Sher is the president of Piazza Hospitality, behind the scenes, Sher and her family contribute to more than a dozen local nonprofit organizations.
We are near completion of the subterranean garage and foundation on the first buildings of the neighborhood. Springtime means cycling time in and around Sonoma County, and Mill District Velo celebrated this month with a series of rides led by our ambassadors and pro-cyclists Ted King and Laura King. In all the Kings led 11 rides over the course of three weeks that ended April 17.

Creative director Elizabeth Pembroke has designed quite a life for herself in Healdsburg. As one half of Pembroke Studios, a design company she founded and co-owns with her husband Rich, Elizabeth has shared her creative genius with hundreds of wineries and other companies in and around Sonoma County and even internationally.
Swing by the Mill District site these days and all may seem quiet at one end, at the other end we continue to build The Exchange. In the coming weeks, at the north end, large-scale construction will begin, and our new neighborhood will begin to take shape quickly.
When it’s complete, Mill District will include several features and experiences that will enhance the lives of our homeowners. The Poolhouse, is certainly one of them. This private health, wellness and social space will serve as a private club for those who live here.

According to Jim Hall, director of design and construction, crews currently are “setting the backbone” for the entire neighborhood.

When Laura thinks about what she loves most about Sonoma County, she doesn’t think of it as Wine Country. She thinks of it as “Ride Country.” King has always associated Sonoma County with some of the best cycling in the world.

One of the most vibrant communities within the Healdsburg community comprises customers of Healdsburg Running Company, or HRC. The shop, which opened in 2014, is the brainchild of Skip Brand, who has almost single-handedly cultivated an active running community in and around the Healdsburg area.
